Introduction
Ultra-filtration is a pressure-driven membrane separation technology. The aim of the technology is to separate macromolecules and small molecules whose membrane pore size is between 20-1000A°. Hollow Fiber Ultra-filter (membrane) has the advantages of high density and compact structure.
In the ultra-filtration process, the water is driven by hydraulic pressure and flows through the membrane surface. The ultra filtration process is a dynamic filtration; separation is accomplished in the mobilization state. Solute in the membrane surface is only a limited deposition, the ultra-filtration rate to a certain degree of attenuation tends to balance, and can be restored by cleaning.
Principles
UF(Ultra-filtration) is a separation technology of lamination, that means a certain pressure will keep the solute molecules at one side of the lamination, so that purify the material.
Advantages and disadvantages
Ultra-filtration technology is easily to be applied and the cost is low. Meanwhile, it doesn't need any chemical reagents. the temperature and PH value of water cannot be changed. In the preparation of biological macromolecules, the UF is mainly used for the desalination of biological macromolecules, dehydration and enrichment. Ultra filtration also has limitations. It can not directly get dry powder formulations. For the protein solution, generally we can only get 10 ~ 50% concentrations.
